Susannah Kay
Durango, CO, USA
I grew up amidst the redwood trees of Northern California. I spent the four years in Athens, Ohio, working towards a degree in photojournalism from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication. I am now living in Austin, TX with my sweet dog and crazy kitty.
Photography is my greatest passion in life. So far, it has placed me on the streets of San Francisco documenting the lives of the homeless, in Kenya tracking the great wildebeest migration, and in Scotland racing behind a pack of huskies while documenting the lives of professional mushers. Through these experiences, I have developed a total love for the power and beauty of visual storytelling. My camera has allowed me to delve deep into people’s lives, my own life, and the world around me.
I have had the pleasure of working with some incredible people, including the New York Times, USA Today, Outside Magazine, United Healthcare, NPR, AARP, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bark! Magazine, The Jackson Hole News & Guide, and The Colorado Springs Gazette, among others. My work has been recognized by College Photographer of the Year, the Hearst Journalism Awards, the National Press Photographers Association, The National Press Photographers Foundation, and the Associated Press Societies of Ohio & Colorado.
I am currently based in the greater Austin, TX area and am available for freelance assignments and weddings wherever you’re willing to send me.
