Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
Joaquin Urrutia is a photographer from the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. He studied visual arts at the University of Guadalajara and later received his Masters degree from the International School of Photography in Madrid, Spain. While in Spain he had the opportunity to document the situation regarding illegal immigration in Melilla, South of Spain. He worked two years as a photojournalist for the Diario el Informador, the principal newspaper in the city of Guadalajara, where he gained interest in photography, and thus grew his passion for documentaries, photojournalism and portraits. Currently he works in photojournalism and investigational documentaries, always looking to include social themes such as immigration, poverty, and mental health. While he has not had the chance yet, he looks forward to documenting the lives of those living in war zones and other harsh territories in order to reveal the more humanistic side.
