I'm a video journalist and documentary filmmaker previously based in Egypt. My work has cut across various platforms including broadcast television and online news outlets. Media organizations I've worked for include Deutsche Welle TV, Al Masry Al Youm, Ahram Online, CNN and Bloomberg TV Africa.
In 2011, I've won an International Press Freedom Award from Canadian Journalists for Free Expression for my coverage of human rights violations in 2010.
I've produced various films and videos for a number of development and human rights organizations. These include The International Committee of the Red Cross in Egypt, UN Women, The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, Misr El Kheir and the World Bank.
One of the activities I've particularly enjoyed is training. I've given a number of video journalism workshops to media professionals as well as students of journalism.
I'm always moved by the power of storytelling and its unique capacity to bring about change to people and communities. My choice of video journalism had been quite deliberate. I realized the power the image and video have on people. Nothing has been more gratifying than seeing how one's work could be just a stepping stone on the course of making people's lives better.
