Andrew Christian Johnson
Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Andrew (b. 1987) is an award-winning visual storyteller and journalist based between his native Canada and adopted Brazil.
His recent longterm work focusses on stories of communities resisting inequality and injustice in Brazil, from the heart of the Amazon rainforest to the periphery of the urban metropolis. Using a multimedia approach somewhere between journalism and documentary, Andrew seeks to immerse his audience in urgent local stories that intersect with wider issues relevant beyond the daily news cycle.
Andrew has contributed editorial work to the Toronto Star, O Estado de São Paulo and Mongabay while other clients include Amazon Watch and the Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (APIB). In addition to being exhibited publicly in both Canada and Brazil, Andrew's work has been recognized by the International Photography Awards and the News Photographer's Association of Canada.
Along with his native English Andrew is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese.
