Andreas Gebert
Munich, Germany
I am a freelance photographer based in Munich, Germany. My focus lies on news, conference & portrait photography.
My favourite assignments are the ones where I can capture people in their natural environments or where I can tell the story of an event in a selection of interesting pictures.
I like to use available light or to use my light in order to enhance the available light. But I usually do carry a small lighting kit and a backdrop with me just in case... My goal is always to present the world as truely as possible.
I was born in Stuttgart in 1976. After studying Rhetoric, Photography and Modern History at Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen and California State University Hayward (1998-2005), I did an apprenticeship at the German news agency dpa in Munich (2005-07). Since then, I've worked as a freelancer for dpa; lately I have also started to work for the Turkish news agency Anadolu.
For dpa I covered the soccer world championships in Brazil in 2014; I also covered the terrorist attacks in Tunisia (2015) and Nice (2016). On a regular basis I travel in order to photograph the Champions League away matches of German soccer team FC Bayern Munich for dpa.
Due to my work as a news photographer I am used to a tight deadline. I usually offer my customers to provide them with a down to the point selection of pictures already during or right after the event that I am shooting, so that they can use the photos for social media or press releases right away.
In addition to dpa and Anadolu, I also work - amongst others - for the German trade union (IHK für München und Oberbayern), the tech conference Bits & Pretzels and the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), for whom I covered conferences in Leipzig, Hongkong and Taipeh.
