Alexander Aksakov

Alexander was born in Pechora (Komi Republic, USSR) in 1986. In 2004 he entered
Syktyvkar state university and started photographing. In 2005 Alexander started hitch-
hiking and documenting life in cities and roads of Russia.
While studying at the university he decided not to work work as a marketeer, but
would concentrate on photography complete. After graduating in 2009 he was put into
the army and served for a year as a fireman in Plesetsk, the space launching site.
In the beginning of 2011 he moved to St. Petersburg, entered St. Petersburg Faculty of
Photojournalism in the name of Galperin (graduated in 2013). At the moment Alexan-
der does reportage photography, personal and group documentary projects.
Alexander’s work has been published in Russian and European newspapers, maga-
zines and sites.
He’s a participants of a number of group exhibitions and festivals in Russia and
abroad.
In 2013 his book 365 (Akina Books publisher) about conscripts’ life in Russian army
was published.
In 2013-2014 Alexander is a permanent participant of Liberty.SU documentary pro-
ject “From White to Black Sea”.
