Facing Change: Documenting DETROIT

Ali Lapetina is a photographer and educator based in Detroit, Michigan.
Her works represents a visual engagement with communities surrounding her -- focusing on immigrant and refugee integration, urban visionaries and longtime residents living within a post-industrial city. Ali graduated from the College for Creative Studies in 2013 with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Art Direction. A year later she founded Women of Banglatown, an all women's community space inspiring Bengali immigrant women to be leaders in their community. The project offers young girls access to free place-based art activities and income generating activities for women.
She has been commissioned by LeMonde, Michigan Radio, The New York Times, Bon Appetit and Cosmopolitan, among others.
