Alex Flores

Alex Flores was born and raised in Mexico City. A self-taught visual artist, her career in art began twenty years ago and has taken her across North America: El Paso, Texas, San Francisco, California, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Toronto, where she resides.
Alex Flores founded LPDM, her vision was to create an alternative Spanish & English multi-media production organization focusing on local and cultural news, editorials, stories and commentaries, as well as presenting different perspectives reflecting the heart of the Latin American community in Toronto and Canada to the world.
She is an eco-feminist and social justice activist as well as an independent film-maker. Alex moved to Toronto, Canada in the spring of 2001. In 2003 she created the Las Perlas del Mar Productions Inc. a bilingual (Spanish and English) internet newscast an alternative media outlet in Toronto Alex directed “Mexican Refugee”, a short documentary following the lives of five Mexican Refugees in Toronto, for which Alex won “Best Up and Coming Director of Toronto Film or Video Award” at the 2005 Inside Out Film Festival. In 2007, Alex produced “Juarez”, a documentary examining theories behind the disappearances and murders of hundreds of women in Juarez, Mexico. Alex received an Honorary Mention at the International Film Feminist Festival in France in 2007, and her film has been screened internationally.
She is the Artistic Producer of the Las Perlas del mar Productions Inc. She writes, directs and edits film and also teaches the Camera and Final cut Pro workshop program to the Latin American community. Alex Flores has been participated in the Play me I am yours an installation of Pianos for the 2015 Panam Games , she painted a Mural for the World Pride Toronto 2014.
