Alex M Sanchez (Alex Mousan) is a documentary photographer and filmmaker born and raised in Miami, Florida. Growing up with a diverse background (Nicaraguan, Panamanian and Middle Eastern heritage) gave her the skills to engage with people from all around the globe which makes her work unique and intimate. She speaks Spanish, French and is currently learning Arabic. She focuses most of her work on conflict and humanitarian issues.
She received her B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida. She is currently a Master's student at the University of North Carolina as a Park Fellow. Her work has been published in the Miami Herald, USA Today, Tampa Bay Times, St Augustine Record, and The Gainesville Sun.
She has worked internationally as a freelance photojournalist and as a photography instructor in Asia, the Caribbean, Central and North America. Most of her archival images are from the Middle East, Asia and Central America.
Alex is a member of Diversify Photo, Authority Collective and Brown Girls Doc Mafia collectives. She is currently based in Durham, North Carolina but available for assignments worldwide.
