Gordon Alexander’s command of Graphic Design is evident in his photographic work. His interpretation comes from expanding artists’ layouts; he welcomes client input and he sees it as adding to the adventure of the creative endeavour. A major strength of his is the ability of getting his subject to relax, allowing their personalities to expand into the images. This can be seen in the numerous cd covers, book jackets, sports, entertainment celebrities and political figures he’s photographed.
Graduating with a BS in Arts and Communication Gordon Alexander began his career in 1978 in television as a staff photographer in still/video and graphic arts. After winning three Abby Awards for fashion print ads, an Audio-Visual Producer opportunity led him to Chicago before returning to Grand Rapids and into the nuts and bolts world of corporate photography with Amway Corporation.
Gordon Alexander Photography was created in 1980, where fashion, editorial, lifestyle, still-life and catalogue photography continues to this day.
As opposed to most photographers, where you’re limited to visual layouts only, Gordon will handle entire projects from the initial concept through to completion, including graphic design, digital manipulation, paper selection and offset print production.
He is a regular contributor to MetroParent publication, YMCA, United Ways and Welliness House, Detroit Women’s Rowing Association and Detroit Visual Studios LLC. He mentors for Focus: Hope’s Focus on the Mission & Excel Photography Programme. He has been a former contributor as Chair of the Michigan Chapter of American Society of Media Photographers and Second Vice President and board member for Detroit’s Children’s Museum and Artist in Resident for the museum.
Gordon resides at GrayHaven Island, a picturesque marina location on Detroit’s eastside Riverfront. This allows him to concentrate on his other passion in his spare time: nature photography.
