One might find it odd for these girls, these women, to want to dress up like a bride. But what occurs, for them, is a transformative moment, a moment where they transcend their context, their identities, and become something else, someone else. They are caught in the act of transforming, and of performance, and their frames join ranks with the many women of the film industry who adorn the walls of their home. This series is part of a project for Aishwarya Tandon’s organisation ‘Nrinam’ (https://www.facebook.com/Nrinam/) which helps women gain employment in the impoverished locality of Wazirabad, Gurgaon, India. ‘Nrinam’ teaches skills that enable women in the area to become financially self-sufficient.
