I’m a freelance photographer based in São Paulo, Brazil, specialized in portraits, and documentary photography, working for publications like The New York Times, Monocle, The Telegraph Magazine, La Repubblica “D”, The Guardian, Stern, Geo, L’Express, National Geographic Brasil, Bloomberg Markets Magazine. I majored in journalism at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica, in Rio de Janeiro, and in 1994 I started my career as a writer for the daily newspaper O Dia. In 1996 I moved to New York to study photography at the International Center of Photography, where I stayed until 2002. In 2001 I spent five months in Afghanistan documenting the end of the Taliban regime. After returning to Brazil I dedicated my focus to documenting the incredible transformation Brazil has been going through in the last decade, with a special interest in the Amazon region. In 2007 I received a grant to spend 6 months in Germany developing a project about the young worker in the disappearing industries in the Ruhr river valley. In 2009 I was awarded 3rd Place for the Arts and Entertainment Singles at the World Press Photo. My worked has been exhibited in Brasil, Japan, Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
