Andrew Aitchison
Folkestone, Kent, UK
I'm a documentary photographer with 20 years’ experience covering social and environmental issues. I work for a wide range of clients, from community-based organisations to leading news titles.
I work in a documentary reportage and portrait style, using the latest Canon digital equipment to capture contexts and tell stories.
I am based in London, I work throughout the UK and around the world. Recent assignments range from highlighting the challenges of child trafficking in India to documenting Royal award ceremonies in London.
As well as extensive practical experience, I have a sound technical background including a degree in documentary photography.
My clients value the fact that I don’t just see things from a photographer’s point of view. Previous roles as a picture editor and photographic agent mean that I know what makes an image stand out and I understand the challenges of commissioning photographers. I always deliver projects on time and on brief.
I don’t hide behind the camera – I engage with my subjects quickly to develop an empathic understanding of their situation and put them at ease which results in unique access and stronger pictures.
