Hip Hop 976
Ania Gruca
Hip Hop 976 is designed to expose through a series of portraits of young Mahoran Hip Hop dancers the various challenges faced by young people in Mayotte. Approximately 50% of Mayotte’s population is under 20. The department is facing a massive influx of migrants arriving from Comoros Island. Schools and medical services are saturated. Violence keeps on increasing steadily. Since 2010, Hip Hop Evolution, a non-profit organization, has been actively devoted to bring together young people from different backgrounds trough Hip Hop dance.
Throughout the years a Hip Hop movement has grown into a positive community giving a chance to many young people to be seen, heard and valued.
