Aníbal Martel Peña (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, 1978) is a documentary photographer currently working as a correspondent for international press agencies in the United States since 2011. He studied photography at Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño Gran Canaria, photojournalism and creative photography at Escuela Superior de Comunicación, Imagen y Sonido in Madrid and the two years of the degree in journalism at Complutense University in Madrid, where he began his career as an independent documentary and editorial photographer in 2003. From that moment, he has developed his photographic work in various capacities: print media, digital media, and press agencies.
In 2016 Aníbal had a solo exhibition as part of his long-term research project in co-creation with his wife the researcher Thenesoya Vidina Martín De la Nuez about the Canary Islander descendants in the United States, “CISLANDERUS”, which was also held in Washington DC, in 2017. This photographic project is currently a traveling exhibition through Louisiana State Museum until 2020.
His photographs have been exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, the Angel Orensanz Foundation, See.Me Gallery, Casa Museo Colón, and Embassy of Spain in the United States among others...
