Antonio Barrella

From musician to photographer.
Antonio Barrella was a professional drum player until his deep interest for image and photography overwhelmed everything else and made him enter the European Design Institute.
So his career begins, first as assistant to Marco Emili in Milan, later as teacher of large format shooting techniques at the Rome IED.
The roman market suits him well and he works for a number of advertising agencies, graphic design studios and companies, such Altaroma, Alitalia, Gattinoni, Fiorucci, Brioni, Swarovski and Procter & Gamble, just to mention a few.
In 1989 he set up Studio Orizzonte, which is to this day one of the most important photographic studios in Rome.
Since 1998, he has been working for Bulgari, contributing to the last 4 catalogue-books of the exhibitions dedicated to Bulgari’s 125th anniversary ( Rome-Paris-Beijing-Houston ).
A passion for photography that brings partnerships with movie and television production companies.
Multiform experiences mark Antonio Barrella’s career, ranging from music to photography, from movies to advertising, earning him the Roma Fashion Prize in 2006 and the third World Prize for fashion photography Master Cup Color Award.
In 2012 he exhibited his photographic project MASH UP at Museo di Roma in Trastevere.
In 2014 the Federation of European Photographer gave him the qualification of european photographer the QEP.
In 2015 he received the European Book Prize of the Year Award and also the MASTER QEP.
He firmly believes that a good photographer must have a sound technical background in order to be then able to dispense with it, but always retaining his maximum level of ability and creative freedom.
Characteristic of his photography is his capacity of observing reality and taking a shot as if it always were his first, keeping his natural and instinctive curiosity unaltered by time.
His images enclose the soul of the represented subject, revealed and enhanced by a technical and meticulous use of light.
