„Rheumatism, thats only something for old people? You can get that as a child?“
Rheumatism and children - thats still unthinkable for most people. Furthermore, there are over 30.000 children und adolescents in Germany suffering from different forms of rheumatism. Most of the young rheumatics - approximately 15.000 - are affected by the special juvenile degenerative joint disease, which involves pain and limited mobility. Thereby there can one or even more joints be affected. Also the disease can develop into internal organs or affect the isis of the eyes, which as a last resort can end up going blind. Rarely some forms of rheumatism can lead to death. Causes for arthritis are wide ranging and usually so far unsolved.
