Fakulteta - Roma ghetto in Sofia
Fakulteta is the name of a part of east Sofia, just a few kilometers from Bulgarias capital center.
Though the country is part of the European Union poverty is still enormous. People have to live here without water supply - electricity is only available to those, who can afford it. Because of traditional structures the level of education is quite low. Girls usually marry at an age of 14-17 and give birth just at the same timerange for the first time.
Home to more than 7000 Roma, Lunik IX is one of the biggest Roma-Settlements in Slovakia. Build between 1981 and 1989 as home for the middleclass, Lunik IX soon turned into a Roma-Ghetto.
It's situated just a few kilometers from the centre of Košice (European Capital of Culture 2013)
Some parts of Lunik IX will be teared down in autum 2013 - Though hundreds of families are living in these buildings, new homes are not provided by the government. Many of the affected families try to escape to Belgium or the UK.
