Bernd Hartung was born in 1967 in the northern Part of Bavaria/Germany. He studied photography- and film-design at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts under Ulrich Mack and Arno Fischer among others. He has been a freelance photographer for more than 20 years. Although he lives in Frankfurt, his work, doing photographic reportage for major magazines and NGOs, has taken him all over the world to places such as Turkey, Romania, Laos, Bhutan, Egypt, Nigeria, the Congo, Sudan, Burkina Faso and Malawi. Frequent visits to Switzerland have led to close collaboration with Swiss publishing houses and museums. Bernd Hartung's particular areas of interest include political, social and cultural topics as well as development politics.
