Mioara Chiparus (b. 1976) is a Romanian freelance documentary photographer currently living in Athens, Greece. After completing a degree in International Affairs at George Washington University, she began traveling extensively in Europe. Drawn to reconnecting with her roots some twenty years after having left her country at sixteen years of age, Mioara Chiparus has most recently been focusing on documenting socio-anthropological aspects of several Romanian communities and villages. While photographing, she often summons her own childhood memories, endeavoring to capture moments which evoke a melancholic longing for missed experiences.
To enhance her photographic skills, Mioara Chiparus completed a one-year program at the Leica Academy in Athens, and attended workshops with Thomas Dworzak, Alex Webb, Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Sorin Onisor.
