Carlos J Matos
Carlos J. Matos is a screenwriter and director working at the intersection of culture and narrative.
Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, he lived across the US before settling in Madrid, Spain where he graduated from the Centro Internacional de Fotografía y Cine (EFTI) with a Masters in Direction of Photography for Film.
Taking inspiration from his multicultural heritage, Carlos’ work often explores the intersectionality of colonialism and the way it influences personal identity. He’s a writer who gravitates toward rebellious, high-concept stories that utilize genre as a universally accessible framework for creating shared meaning.
His short films BLINK. and 2091 have been screened internationally in top-tier festivals like the Miami IFF and the New York Latino IFF, won awards, and garnered nominations including Best Direction and Best Cinematography. His latest project SECOND LAW, an animated film blending practical and digital VFX, is currently in development.
