Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
My name is Callen and I am a freelance photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. I studied Photography at Ruth Prowse School of Art for three years, graduating with a distinction for my final body of work. Throughout college I worked for we-are-awesome.com as an event and commercial photographer. My duties were to document Cape Town’s nightlife and street culture. Additionally I collaborated on various projects at the time with like-minded creative’s. After completing my diploma at Ruth Prowse, I went on to study a further six months at the University of Hertfordshire in England. Here I learned many new skills such as html coding, colour darkroom printing and printmaking. Upon my return to Cape Town, I completed a three-month short course in Feature Article Writing with UCT & Getsmarter. I spent the following 6 months working as a photographer’s assistant to various local photographers. In June 2014 I was employed at Infidels Creative Agency where I spent a year working as a Junior Photographers Agent & Assistant to the in-house Producer. In this time I learnt invaluable skills in stills production, corresponding with clients, portfolio management, marketing, social media planning and data capturing. This opportunity helped attune my eye to beautiful design, develop my skills in efficient, quality production and sharpen my knowledge of the local South African photographic industry. From this place, I have chosen to use what I have learnt to further my career as a photographer. I’m currently situated in a studio in the Old Castle Breweries, working as a freelance photographer for various clients.
