Vincent Catala

Vincent Catala lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, where he moved in spring 2013. In 2000 he graduated from McGill University with a Master Degree in Intellectual Property. He became a photographer in 2006 after having experienced various trades.
In his assignments as in his personal works, Vincent discusses and contextualizes the bonds between the individual and his space, and their subjective representations: loneliness, freedom, place in the world.
Focusing on long-term projects, he regularly works for public and private assignments related to urban planning and architecture. Vincent is also a portraitist and thus collaborates with music labels and the press.
Since 2012 he is involved in a personal research focusing on the evolution of the city of Rio de Janeiro. His work has been the subject of various exhibitions in Paris, Amman, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Tbilisi, Braga and was awarded several prizes.
Since 2015, this work is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Rio de Janeiro.
