It all started with disposable cameras and Barbie dolls. As I got older, my passion for photography evolved to include black and white film, SLRs, the dark room, medium format film, and eventually digital. Throughout my life as a photographer I've been a photojournalist at heart, with a drive to "make photos that matter." One might then consider my choice to pursue food photography as an odd one, but to me, I'm on a multi-faceted mission. 1. to inspire people to take action on their health, 2. to help promote cultural understanding, 3. to promote unique, passion-based businesses that have values in line with mine, and 4. to bring food issues to the forefront.
Why am I interested in these things? Well, at the age of 22, after growing up an overweight, picky eater; dancing and playing soccer for over a decade; and traveling the world experiencing new cuisines, I made some changes. I finally realized I should be happy with my body, and that I could take action to change it. I learned about nutrition and health, and continue to experiment and learn new things (I don't follow any particular diet dogmatically), and I've lost over 50lbs. I want to help the people that were like me and get them to a place where they realize they can make the changes. I want them to feel empowered. And, I want to help bring the health and nutrition conversation to the next level, and begin to address some of the major problems in our food system.
