Cheryl-Samantha Owen
Arusha, Tanzania
Born in Kenya, Sam developed a fierce drive to protect the continent’s resources. She trained in the biological sciences, but realised that she can have a greater conservation impact with photographs than with statistics. Sam is passionate about stirring the public’s curiosity about the natural world. Her experience in both the corporate and conservation sectors has equipped her to work and negotiate successfully with a wide range of people.
Sam holds a MSc in Conservation Biology with Distinction from the Percy Fitzpatrick Institute (Centre of Excellence), University of Cape Town and a BSc Honours degree in Environmental Science and Business from Imperial College, London. She has called the USA, UK, East and South Africa her home, but has lived in Africa for most of her life. Her work has taken her across the continent and along its oceans and coasts, including expeditions to the remote Aldabra Atoll, Djibouti and the Tana River Delta.
