Chloë Ellingson
Women Photograph
Toronto, ON, Canada
I am an independent documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Toronto, Canada. Before beginning my freelance career I had the privilege of earning a BA in art history and philosophy at McGill University and a diploma in photojournalism at Loyalist College.
My work focuses on how family, an institution we are all intimately connected to, informs a person's sense of self and perceived place in the world, and how it is impacted by its surrounding cultural landscape. In the case of my own life, this interest has steered my work in the direction of unpacking the narratives of Canada I was raised with as a sixth-generatian Canadian.
My work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council and the Magenta Foundation. My ongoing project Wind of the North was a finalist for the Women Photograph ONA Grant and a semi-finalist for the 2017 Lange-Taylor prize. I am a proud member of Women Photograph.
