Cansu Yıldıran
Women Photograph
İstanbul, Türkiye
Cansu Yıldıran's (Istanbul, 1996) artistic practice can be viewed as a persistent and passionate quest for a sense of home. Along the pursuit of belonging, the stops in this quest can be a body, a place, a feeling, friends, or a community.
Yıldıran draws from personal experiences to tell non-normative stories and fairy tales through photography and video. The stories often discuss Cansu’s personal curiosities and concerns while drawing inspiration from social movements, history, and everyday life, expanding and gaining layers through in-depth examination.
“Yıldıran's artistic practice focuses on provokingthoughts and establishing emotional connections withthe audience. Through their unique narrative style andvisual aesthetics, they aim to explore the depths ofmeaning in everyday life.”
In 2018, Cansu was selected for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass, and in 2022, they were awarded the Women Photograph Project Grants.
Additionally, they achieved great success by winning first place in the Resistance category of the 2021 All Out Photography Award and being shortlisted for the Main Prize of the 2021 PH Museum Photography Grant.
