Facing Change: Documenting DETROIT
Detroit, MI, USA
Cydni Elledge is a photographer from Detroit, whose love for art and natural talent transformed a hobby into a profession. She is committed to the community, as much of her work displays the culture of Detroit and the unfiltered everyday lives of its residents.
As a fellow of the Facing Change; Documenting Detroit fellowship, Cydni set out to capture portraits of young black men as a way to negate negative stereotypes and promote self-worth. As an intern for the Public Lighting Authority in Detroit, she photographed and interviewed residents of the city to bring attention to the importance of street lighting in the inner city. She also collaborated with the Detroit Historical Society to produce diptychs of previously photographed images while creating her own.
For six years, Cydni assisted international photojournalist Monica Morgan. Cydni also holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography from the College of Creative Studies. Her work has been published in over five publications including the Detroit News, Metro Times, and Native Detroiter.
