Donna Bailey

For over twenty years, Donna has created photographs set in the natural environment that surrounds her regional Australian home. Within this environment, formerly the site of the Central Victorian goldfields, Donna explores themes of childhood, youth and belonging. Donna’s images of young people, including her own children, set against the backdrops of open granite country and ironbark bush-land have received critical acclaim and have been exhibited in major public, commercial and regional galleries throughout Australia as well as in the Philippines and Germany.
Donna’s work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, Bendigo Art Gallery, Monash Gallery of Art, Albury Art Gallery, La Trobe University (F M Courtis Collection), Adelaide University, Genazzano FCJ College and Bendigo Bank as well as private collections.
Donna has been the recipient of major grants and prizes including the Australian Post Graduate Award and an Arts Development Grant (Arts Victoria), the National Photographic Purchase Award and the Adelaide University Visual Arts Prize. Donna completed a PhD in 2012.
In group shows Donna has exhibited alongside Nan Goldin, Carol Jerrems, William Yang, Simeon Johan, Pat Brassington, Loretta Lux and many others. Including the Oculi photographers.
Donna joined the Australian photographic collective, Oculi in 2006.
