Small town upbringing. Shy geek behind the camera in elementary/junior/high school. Fled to the West Coast at the earliest opportunity. Art major. Hippie-granola college. Detoured into birding and biology for a bit. One summer the sun never set. Bicycled across the country. Chased solar eclipses. Got a job as an assistant. Never knew you could be a photographer and not wait tables. Hungry to shoot on my own, soon I was. Magazine stories and covers, annual reports, advertising. Decade later joined Photonica, became their biggest American contributor. Big passion project: Ireland. Black and white panoramics. Book package. Big New York exhibit. Then 9/11 happened. Back to assignment photography when the industry recovered. Discovered video, pre-DSLR, wow, look at the way you can tell stories with this. New passion project: American contra dance. Became my own publisher. Now I work out of town most of the time. Still adore the travel, and I can usually find a dance. I'm having way more fun than anyone deserves.
