Abdul-Vahit Duman
Gent, België
Abdul-Vahit Duman (° 1980, Ghent of Turkish origin) completed the training Fotokunst at St Luke Academy in Ghent and works as a freelance photographer. He was twice winner of PhotoView (Center for Expression) and his series ‘window’ and ‘identity’ were selected for the International Photo Festival Knokke-Heist (2009) and the Canvas Collection (2010).
What drives him to work and free reports, is the (non-) communication of a person or the community-culturally different environment. A serene glimpse of a cloaked, everyday world within rooms or a conservative – both individual and social-quest for a multi-cultural identity. So he creates surprising encounters, or make them visible.
In 2009, his original photo shoot of the interior and the visitors of mosques published in the book ‘Islamic areas in the city’ of Meryem Kanmaz (2009) and exhibited at Kunsthal Sint-Pieters in Ghent. With Mana Vzw he collaborated on a book ‘new mosques “(2011), in which he and the interior architecture of the new building mosques within the European context photographed. He is one of the winners of the 2-yearly competition of the art salon. His work was included in the catalog of art in house.
