Eileen Quinn is an Italian-Irish PhD student in human rights, and freelance journalist, based in Palermo (Sicily). After a BA in Human Sciences at the University of Oxford, she completed an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is currently investigating migrant smuggling via sea and land in North Africa, especially Libya, directed to Europe.
In 2015, she was selected to conduct an internship at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where she worked at the Medical Services Division for three months. She now conducts qualitative research in both Sicily and Tunisia.
Eileen has published as a freelance journalist with Al Jazeera English (UK), the Financial Times (UK), The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), Voci Globali (Italy-Ghana), and The Courant (UK).
