I am a professional photojournalist based in New York. After graduating with a degree in Art History from Vassar College, and working at CBS News in Rome and New York in the 1980’s, I began my photography career in 1987 at the agency Photoreporters. I then joined the Black Star Photo Agency shortly after covering the Democracy Movement in China in 1989, and worked with them for more than a decade. In the early 90's, I was based
In Barcelona and Paris, covering a wide range of news and feature stories (including the '92 Olympics) for Newsweek, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Business Week, Der Spiegel, European Travel and Life, Travel-Holiday, and numerous other leading domestic and international publications and corporations. I have traveled on assignment to more than 35 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, and speak French, Italian and Spanish. Currently, my work includes a mixture of editorial, corporate, and portrait photography. I syndicate my photos through Getty Images. In 2010, I also launched PICTURELIEF, a project that raises money for charity through portraiture. So far, I have raised almost $20,000 for various relief organizations. My most recent travels include a trip to Cuba in April 2015. Please visit my websites www.ericalansner.com and www.picturerelief.com
