Esteban Chinchilla
San José, San José Province, Costa Rica
Esteban Chinchilla was born in San José, Costa Rica, in 1978. He holds a BA
in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica. He is a self-taught visual artist
with eight years of experience as a freelance documentary photographer working with
still photography. In addition to being the official
photographer for the Schools of Dance of universities such as the Universidad de
Costa Rica and the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, he is a musician and writer
(poetry and short story). His first book, Carpintería, was published by the Spanish
Program for Cultural Cooperation in 2008. He represented Costa Rica as a writer
managing the country´s stand at the Salon du livre de Paris in 2014. He has also
appeared in publication with Princeton University´s Spanish Department in the US.
Esteban worked during five years as a professional pianist. In the last three years he
has begun to work in film and video photography. He was the director of photography
on the film Viaje by the director Paz Fabrega, which was selected for the Tribeca
International Film Festival (New York) in the United States. He has worked as
director of photography on a variety of other projects, including several by World
Animal Protection. He has been selected by John Stanmeyer to be one of the ten
photographers to participate in the Storytelling workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2016.
