Born and raised in Aspen, Colorado – Janelle Pietrzak grew up with a little wildness in her blood. Seemingly, she can’t remember a time before she knew how to ski, ride a horse, or build a campfire deep in the wilderness. The daughter of an artist and a farmer, Janelle was taught to work with her hands, to solve problems on her own, and to approach the world with creativity. She learned to read at a very young age and from that point on she had her nose in a book. As an adolescent, she devoured every story she could get her hands on, and spent much of her childhood living in that other world, the one manifested from the written word. This love of narrative is clearly reflected in her artistry as a photographer and visual raconteur. Just as words create pictures in our minds, Janelle’s ideas, even philosophy on life, become her images. From explorations of the divine feminine through long exposure photography, to digitally altered investigations of fairytales and lore, Janelle’s boundless imagination springs to life through the lens of her camera.
