Felipe Dana discovered photography early, when at age 15 he started working as an assistant for event and commercial photographers.
A few years later, Dana moved to Brisbane, Australia, to complete his high school education. Back home in 2004, after learning from several still photographers as an assistant, Dana studied photography at a university in Rio and decided to become a professional photographer doing some work for local photo agencies, then for Getty Images, in parallel of commercial work for almost six years, when by the end of 2009, he decided to turn his career solely into photojournalism.
Since then, Dana has focused his work on documenting the consequences of social changes on slums due to upcoming major sports events scheduled for 2014 and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, where he currently lives and works as a staff photographer for The Associated Press.
His work has received a number of awards in international contests including the World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year Latam (POY), NPPA, China International Photo Competition (CHIPP), the Atlanta Photojournalism, among others.
