'Mocho' eats chocolate cake, found in the trash of a bakery in Caracas, September 2016. During fourteen years until his death in 2013, late president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, promised that affordable food would be one of the guarantees of his socialist government. Three years later, President Nicolas Maduro declared an emergency decree to fight the 'Economic War'. In the streets, people started eating and collecting food leftovers recovered from trash. They also collect and recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, copper, electronic scrap and jewelry to make 10-15 dollars a week. According to them, they make the most logical thing to survive without committing a crime.
