Gary Wahl is an Assistant Professor in the Studio Arts discipline of the University of Minnesota at Morris. He teaches courses in Photography, Digital Art, and Sculpture. An active artist Prof. Wahl works in a range of materials from photography to cast metals. His recent projects include “Dream Homes” photographs of plastic playhouses that use these ubiquitous structures as a means to examine the childhood formation of one’s dream house and “Winter Blind” a series that seeks lyrical landscapes in the shadows of frost on a window to reflect on the frailty of human shelter. Images from “Winter Blind” were included in the 2014 Minnesota Biennial at the Minnesota Museum of American Art. Prof. Wahl also explores these themes in his large-scale sculpture featuring metal house forms grafted onto organic roots. These have been exhibited at the South Bend Regional Airport, The Cherry Valley Sculpture Trail, the Western Michigan University Sculpture Trail, and the Knoxville Art Museum.
