From my time growing up, watching my dad as a photojournalist at the Birmingham News, I always knew that it was the path to follow. Finding my way took time but it led me to Western Kentucky University, where I found people with the same passion and drive that helped me better understand what it takes to be a photojournalist. This prove to be the greatest education I could ever receive. It’s not only about the technical aspects but having the ability to relate and really get to know your subject. I love that aspect the most, when I can get a total stranger to trust me to tell their story.
This is my seventh year at the Record Searchlight in Redding, Calif., and it has been a great experience covering this vast community. Assignments from the fires of 2008, local high school sports and a story of a wonderful boy who lost his life to cancer has helped me to better understand people and become a better photographer. I have found challenges, solutions, and built some of the greatest relationships with amazing people that have shaped my life forever.
