Gembong Nusantara is a documentary photographer and filmmaker which focus on socioeconomic, sociocultural, human right and environmental issues based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He studied English Literature in Universitas Sanata Dharma, Yogyakarta. While studying, he found a medium for his storytelling, photography, and started the professional career as a stringer for Associated Press Jakarta Bureau in 2009. One year later, he got a scholarship to pursue Photojournalism Program at Konrad Adenauer ACFJ Ateneo de Manila, Philippines. He also studied Advanced Visual Story Telling at world-renowned Danish School of Media and Journalism, Denmark.
Gembong has covered big events as the natural disaster of Merapi volcano eruption, Middle East refugees tragedy in Indonesia who tried to flee to Australia, and Jakarta economic booming and hidden stories like mental health problem in Indonesia, children born with different abilities caused by virus and malnutrition.
His works have been published in F&D Magz, Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Society Magazine, Internazionale, Wall Street Journal, Time, New York Times, The Diplomat, Get Lost, and many other international publications.
He has been commissioned by International NGOs; such as World Animal Protection, US AID, IMF, IRI, Kelola, etc.
He is available for Reportage and Editorial assignments.
