Gianni Esposito

Gianni Esposito (Naples, Italy, 1993) is a freelance photographer and filmmaker based in Barcelona. He is mainly interested in visual journalism and documentary filmmaking, in the social and environmental fields. In recent years he has felt the need to delve deeper into stories, which is why he dedicates himself to medium and long-term projects. He interprets photography as an instrument to reflect and raise questions.
He documents the riots in Catalonia in the days following the sentencing of the Catalan pro-independence leaders and collaborates with different local solidarity networks for the rights of refugees.
He shows his documentary work in the exhibition Periférica at the Photoalicante Internetional Photography Festival. He won the Enrique Meneses 2022 Photojournalism Grant with his personal project Biocidio.
During the last year, he has given several talks at the University of Naples Federico II and at the Mistos photography school in Alicante.
His work has been selected in competitions such as the Canon Student Development Programme 2023 and the Festival of Ethical Photography in Italy. He publishes in several newspapers such as the newspaper Información and the magazine Il Millimetro.
He is currently working on different documentary projects.
