Rob Robprideaux
San Francisco, CA, United States
Rob combines traditional craftsmanship and digital technology to create photographs of things that do not - and probably should not - exist. As much as his conceptual narratives rely on artifice and contrivance, his process results in photographs that have a seductive feeling of authenticity. Rob is based in San Francisco and works with top brands, agencies and publications around the country to bring a satirical twist to a craftsmans approach.
Rob uses satire to communicate visual stories. His witty critiques on mainstream culture are presented with a playful snark, in an effort to prompt critical thought and a sense of enjoyment at the same time. His anti-examples and cautionary tales demonstrate the opposite of what people expect to see in an ad - what will happen if you don't buy, use, or pay attention to this product or service. Using a clean, bright aesthetic to draw contrast against imagery that is bent or off-kilter. He's not afraid to break the rules and employ a visual language that is highly surreal and slightly sinister, as long as it serves the idea.
With respect for the tradition of craftsmanship, he assembles real objects on set and photographs everything at once. The synergy of this real time studio collaboration engenders a quality in the end product that seduces. Even if the subject matter is entirely unreliable, the final image has a greater degree of believability - creating a moment of uncertainty into which the message can appear.
