Gregoire Bernardi
Marseille, France
Born in 1983 in Aix-en-Provence.
After starting out in Marseille as a news photographer for a press agency and the 20 Minutes newspaper, Grégoire Bernardi moved to London in 2008 where he oriented his personal work towards portraiture and documentary while working on commissioned work. His photographs borrow from the cinema its graphic and narrative codes, enhancing the setting as much as the character, for example in his project on the “Route Nationale 66” where he enjoys capturing American imagery on this French road connecting the Alsace and the Vosges region or even his series “One last song” which bears witness to the last evening of a Marseilles karaoke bar before its final closure. In recent years, he has exhibited his projects in London, Paris and Marseille. Solicited by the press, his work has been published in The Guardian, Monocle, The Observer Magazine, M Le Monde, L'Express Dix, Pèlerin, Les Inrocks and Géo.
Grégoire is currently working on a project on the Rhône and Thames estuaries, which he will publish in a book in the fall of 2020.
Back in France, he now divides his time between Paris and Marseille.
