Coney Island 7/22/17 5:45am
Gretchen Robinette
Image from an ongoing series of neighborhoods in New York City during the hour before sunrise. Bar doors shut at 4:30 am sending late nighters stumbling home shielding their eyes to the first sign of light. Daytime workers sit on trains, sipping coffee and checking emails, waiting for their stop to the office. Between this intersection lies the hour when "the city that never sleeps" is largely quiet. Shot for Gothamist 2015-2017.
