Heba Khamis is a 28 years old Egyptian freelance visual storyteller concentrates on the social issues that are sometimes ignored.
Khamis was chosen for Joop Swart masterclass from world press photo this year. She made it as a commended to the Ian Parry scholarship this year as well.
Khamis holds a Bachelor’s degree in painting from the faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria, Egypt, and recently obtained a Diploma in Photojournalism from faculty of applied sience and arts. Hannover university, Germany. 2016, she got another one year Diploma from the Danish school of Media and Journalism in Denmark.
In the beginning of 2012 until 2015, she was hired as a staff photojournalist in “El Tahrir” the biggest opposition newspaper in Egypt. her images made it to the front pages of the newspaper and she started freelancing for international publications, such as the Associated Press. Khamis documented the aftermath of the Arab Spring, for instance ongoing protests and sit-ins, and published her work in the New York Times and the Telegraph. Later her photography developed from hard news to a more documentary style after volunteering in Uganda. Khamis became more focused on the social and humanitarian issues. recently she is working on breast ironing issue in Cameroon and refugees gay prostitution in Germany.
