Hai ZHANG was born in Kunming, China in 1976. In 2000, after his graduation from the college in Chongqing, China with an architecture degree, he moved to the US for the masters degree in Architecture. Since then, ZHANG has lived and worked in Alabama, Miami, Washington, DC and New York City. Before he was able to devote himself to photographic work, he worked for the renowned architect, Rafael Vinoly, for several years.
ZHANG’s photographic works have covered broad subject matters and geographic locations. He has exhibited internationally in the museums and galleries in Europe, New York, Russia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Costa Rica and China, including solo exhibitions in France and New York. ZHANG was a fellow of Rafael Vinoly Architecture Research Fellowship from 2009 to 2010. He was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2014. His artist books have been shortlisted in Kassel Photobook Dummy Awards 2014 and selected for the exhibitions at the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Currently, ZHANG commutes between the US, China and Europe.
