BIO
I was born on 30th of August 1992 in Pretoria. I form part of the “born free” generation in South Africa. I lived in Pretoria until we moved to Centurion when I was 10 years old. We moved very often, both in Pretoria and Centurion. Having moved so often when I was younger, I mostly never felt at home. I often felt displaced in what was supposed to be called home.
After finishing school I received a camera as present and did some technical photography courses. I did not know my aunt and uncle very well; they are both photographers working in the entertainment industry with a rich photojournalism background. I met them and explained my aspirations of becoming a photographer. They agreed to take me under their wing and help teach me the ins and outs of photography in the entertainment industry. With my new skills and constant support I flourished. My photography career finally took off.
After nearly four years of working relentlessly as an events photographer I decided to take up Photojournalism as my new career aspiration. This decision changed my life. For the first time in my life I appreciate not feeling at home, I now have the ability to see what is around me from an outsider’s perspective. I believe this is my main advantage. I am currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
