I am a journalist, author and photographer who writes for the New York Times, World Soccer, CNN and GQ magazine, amongst others, as well being the Associate Editor at Delayed Gratification, the world's first slow journalism magazine. I've reported from over 60 countries and had my work translated into more than 20 languages.
You can also hear me regularly on the BBC World Service World Football show, and can see me on Copa90, a YouTube channel devoted to football culture that has over one million subscribers.
I've written two books. When Friday Comes: Football, War and Revolution in the Middle East (deCoubertin), which won Best New Writer at the 2009 British Sports Book of the Year Awards, and Thirty One Nil - On the Road with Football's Outsiders (Bloomsbury), which won Football Book of the Year at the 2015 British Sports Book of the Year Awards.
