Jon Soucy
Baltimore, MD, United States
Jon is from Baltimore, Md., but has driven through and visited 49 of the 50 states* as well as several foreign countries. He has covered daily assignments for a variety of publications including The York (Pa.) Dispatch/ York Sunday News, Delmarva Newspapers, Landmark Community Newspapers as well as a numerous freelance clients. Some of those clients include larger well-known entities such as The Washington Post, the University of Pittsburgh Press and Oxfam America. Others are known more in a local or regional sense, such as the Baltimore Skateboard Company, Maryland Life magazine and Fistolo Records. He has also served in the U.S. Army as a photojournalist and has covered military operations in a variety of locations.
But, no matter the client or if it’s a personal project, the focus is on producing strong documentary and portrait work that engages the viewer with a layered and nuanced visual narrative. In the end, it comes down to exceptionally well-done visual storytelling.
Others have agreed and his work has garnered awards in numerous photojournalism and documentary photography competitions to include the annual Military Photographer of the Year competition, the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar and a variety of other national and regional awards programs and competitions.
He has played in several bands, has a knack for remembering the most obscure details about a vast array of subjects and is available for freelance assignments, long-term projects and can easily be talked into driving across the country in vehicles of questionable mechanical aptitude.
But also, he'd like to hear from you. Don't be shy, say hello.
(And he rarely refers to himself in the third person.)
*Hawaii is the missing state needed to hit all 50.
