Jono Wood is a photographer working editorially creating photo essays, exhibiting long-term photographic projects in fine art galleries and taking commisions from advertising agencies.
“photography is a way to explore people and places i'd otherwise have very little reason to interact with. I use the camera as a tool to delve into these situations and create original content.”
He studied at national college of photography and freelance assisted photographers such as Axel Hoedt, Ross Garrett and Pieter Hugo until he was signed as a photographer to his agency RHO. His work strives to be identified as his own and combines a unique style of commercial polish and documentary grit to define his look and feel.
He has won awards in the Sony Prophoto Awards for a project on white poverty and won a silver and bronze loerie in 2016 for a campaign for Children of Fire.

His first exhibition was "The Park" where he collaborated with journalist Nickolaus Bauer creating a portraiture series focused on profiles of drug users in a Hillbrow park. The exhibition was shown at Rubix Cube gallery in Maboneng and recieved overwhelming success and feautures in local media.

His most recent long-term project “dark city” was a project where he collaborated with Architec Hariwe and film maker Dirk Chalmers exploring the phenomenon of dark buildings in Johannesburgs Doornfontein district. The project was exhibited at circa gallery in 2016 with overwhelming success as the most highly attended exhibition in Circas history recieving wide attention from media and the public.

He works as a social commentator and strives to be a lens and voice into topics often overlooked or under documented.
